Our team choose Malacca as our traditional food under subject e-tourism. Malacca is just 3 hours away from Larkin Central by bus. Malacca is one of the most popular weekend getaway spot and tourist attractions in Malaysia to be visited and explored the traditional food and historical buildings.

As everyone knows, Malacca is famous for its traditional food traditions such as asam pedas, cencaluk, dodol, belacan, gula melaka and many more. We stayed for 4 days and 3 night in Kg Sungai Rambai.

DAY 1, DODOL
Dodol is probably one of those few rare traditional food products that has survived modern-day proliferation and still being produced using traditional recipes. One can get the original Dodol in Melaka for it is considered as a signature cuisine in Melaka.

Dodol is usually known to be dark brown in color. The texture will turn into sticky, thick and sweet.

The best and delicious dodol stall in Malacca

For the day one we went to dodol at klebang on the side of the road. Dodol is a type of food that can be categorized into sweet food. Dodol is very famous in Malacca as traditional food since years ago. Making dodol is not as easy as we see. It is very complicated and the taking time too long almost 6 hours to make the dodol ready. If dodol is not made in the right way, it will produce low quality of texture and taste of dodol. Usually those who are making the dodol consist of aged ones.

The ingredients needed to make dodol consist of coconut milk, rice flour and sugar palm or sugar. All the ingredients will mix together into “kuali besi” and stirring well 5 to 6 hours at high temperatures. Dodol also has become a symbolic food during Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations. There are many type of dodol in terms of colour and taste.

DAY 2, BELACAN
Melaka is famous for its belacan. Many tourists who visit our historic state will buy belacan for themselves and as gifts for family and friends back home.

The process of how to making belacan. Belacan making process is quite straightforward but requires patience and hard work.

Variety shapes of belacan. The belacan can be compressed into blocks or cubes, ready to be used immediately or stored for future use.

Picture with the great staffs in Hanuris factory.

Hanuris factory located in Malacca city. The factory is only made belacan and cencaluk. We do an observation and collect all the information there. As we know, belacan is a kind of ingredients made from finely crushed shrimp or know as “udang geragau”, mixed with salt and fermented for several weeks. It has a strong smell  but the taste is so delicious. It can be cut into rectangular, circle and any versions of size. There are some who like to burn it a little each side before used it.

Belacan also one of the main ingredients for producing “sambal belacan” and one of the traditional food in Malacca. So if you plan to visit Melaka, don’t forget to buy belacan. Other than that is cencaluk. We do not have any footage about cencaluk because its all ready-made. Cencaluk is a Malacca traditional food made of fermented small shrimps or is called udang geragau. The taste is salty. Usually served as a condiment together with chillis, shallots and lime juice.

DAY 3, KUIH KERIA
Kuih Keria is a unique Malay traditional donut that is more commonly found in Melaka.
It is basically deep fried sweet potato dough covered in sweet Gula Melaka glaze. The donut is slight crispy on the edges, fibrous but soft on the inside.

In Melaka, this is the overwhelmingly popular shop that sell kuih keria ‘Kuih Keria Antarabangsa’.
The main ingredients is sweet potato, flour, baking powder, salt, cooking oil and palm sugar. Mixed all the ingredients except the cooking oil. Shape the mixture into small size by holding a palm-sized ball of dough.

There is no yeast in this doughnut and doesn’t have a dough texture. It’s not smooth and you gets bits of bite from the fiber in the potato. Glazed heavily with sugar syrup, it’s sinfully sweet and savoury at the same time and the size is small doughnut ring that makes you want to repeat it.

There are few elements of E-Tourism that we used such as grab car, bus and using internet to find information and location to make our journey easier and smooth.

Transportation has been an integral part of the tourism industry. There is a general agreement that tourism expands more when there are better transportation system.

We using grab car from PIS to Larkin Central it costs RM 52.00 for six seater, it takes almost half an hour to arrived. Grab is a smartphone-based transport booking platform that started in Malaysia as MyTeksi to revamp the taxi and transport industry. Next, we taking bus from Larkin Central to Merlimau Central and it costs RM19.20 include insurance. We buying the tickets directly from counter, we did not get a chance to buy the tickets from the onlines machine because it too crowded and did not have much time. When arrived there, we are using internet to find location and information about our projects. We are really grateful because everything went well. The E-tourism system really has a powerful impact on hospitality and tourism and can helps in many terms.
